Características sociodemográficas y utilización de servicios sanitarios por la población inmigrante residente en un área de la Comunidad de Madrid

Abstract

[ES] Objetivo: Describir las características sociodemográficas y la utilización de servicios sanitarios en la población inmigrante residente en un área sanitaria. Participantes: Población inmigrante regularizada o no que reside en el área de estudio. Emplazamiento: Área Sanitaria 6 de la Comunidad de Madrid. Métodos y resultados principales: Entrevistas individuales a 300 inmigrantes seleccionados mediante muestreo bietápico de conglomerados. La edad media fue de 32,6 años (IC del 95%, 31,6–33,7), de los que 6,6 los han vivido en España, encontrándose un 30,9% (IC del 95%, 24,3–35,9) en situación de irregularidad administrativa y sanitaria. Una de cada 5 personas no dispone de agua corriente ni recogida de basuras. Los principales problemas de salud referidos fueron dolores musculares (69%; IC del 95%, 63,9–74,1), problemas de vías respiratorias altas (40,3%; IC del 95%, 33,9–46,7) y accidentes (27,3%; IC del 95%, 16,9–37,7%). Los centros de salud (64,5%; IC del 95%, 56,7–72,3) fueron utilizados de preferencia a otros servicios, siendo los de urgencias la casi exclusiva vía de hospitalización. Conclusiones: La población inmigrante mantiene de forma prolongada su residencia en esta área, a pesar de pervivir en condiciones adversas administrativa y sanitariamente. La sanidad pública, a través del INSALUD, es el principal proveedor de servicios sanitarios a la población inmigrante. [EN] Objective: To describe the social and demographic characteristics of the immigrant population residing in a health district and their use of health services. Participants: Immigrant population with papers or otherwise living in the area under study. Setting: Health District 6 in the Community of Madrid. Measurements and main results: Individual interviews with 300 immigrants chosen by two-stage conglomerate sampling. Average age was 32.6 (95% CI, 31.6-33.7) with 6.6 years living in Spain. 30.9% (CI, 24.3-35.9) lived in a situation of administrative and health-coverage irregularity. One of every five people had neither running water nor rubbish collection. The main health problems arising were muscular pains (69%; CI, 63.9-74.1), upper respiratory path ailments (40.3%; CI, 33.9-46.7) and accidents (27.3%; CI, 16.9-37.7). Health centres (64.5%; CI, 56.7-72.3) were used in preference to other services, with emergency being almost the only path into hospital admission. Conclusions: The immigrant population has lived in this area for a long time, despite living in adverse conditions in administrative and health terms. The public health service through INSALUD is the principal provider of health services to immigrants.
