Abstract
The study “Colorectal Cancer Screening: Knowledge, Attitude, and Practices in Mafraq, Ajloun, and Tafilah” was conducted by the Instituto de Salud Carlos III and the CSAI Foundation (Fundación Estatal, Salud, Infancia y Bienestar Social) in collaboration with the Jordanian Ministry of Health. It was funded by the European Union through AECID (Agencia Española de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo). The objective of the study was to evaluate the knowledge, attitudes, and practices of the Jordanian population regarding colorectal cancer (CRC) and its screening. The design, recruitment, data analysis, and preparation of the final report were carried out by the team from Carlos III and CSAI. The findings revealed that while the Jordanian population generally holds a positive attitude towards CRC screening, a significant portion lacks basic knowledge about CRC and the screening process. Respondents with greater knowledge about CRC were more likely to express willingness to undergo screening. Higher levels of knowledge about CRC and CRC screening were linked to higher education levels and refugee status. Additionally, higher education was associated with a more favorable attitude toward CRC screening. Receiving accurate information about the screening procedure was found to significantly increase willingness to participate. This information has been deemed highly valuable by the Ministry of Health for the future implementation of a nationwide colorectal cancer screening program.
